"I took a trip recently to the wind farm under construction in Lincoln County, Kansas. I came away with a great sense of joy. You see, back in 1977, I was
the Editor and Publisher of Alternate Energy Magazine. I remember the
hand drawn cover of the June 1977 issue in which we crudely showed what
I thought the future would look like.

You can now see that scanned cover to your right.

It was just the second issue of our fledgling magazine, and in my editorial,
I was elated at President Jimmy Carter's statement, "The nation would be
waging the moral equivalent of war on the energy crisis." I pointed out in
my piece that technology wouldn't slow down the energy crunch, but it
would take a change in people's attitudes to solve our energy use
problems.

I was impressed to see the Smoky Hill Wind Farm rising on the
Kansas landscape. I was glad to see, thirty years later, that the change in
attitude - that real solution to the problem - was finally sweeping over
the nation.

It was recently reported in the Salina Journal that the installation of the
turbines began in September of 2007. The first phase of the project
covers 10,000 acres and stretches nearly 10 miles from east to west
along Interstate Highway 70. A second phase, which doesn't have a firm starting date, will bring the totals to 22,000 acres and 15 miles.

The first phase will generate about 100 megawatts of electricity annually,
which is enough to power 30,000 to 35,000 homes. The second phase
would add another 150 megawatts of capacity.

Bonnie and I climbed into our Toyota Prius and zipped back to Salina at 52 miles per gallon, having thoroughly enjoyed our day trip to Lincoln County."

"Promoting recycled paper is the one substantial thing we can do as the
owners of a printing company in North Central Kansas. The reduced energy
and water use really does make a difference. It is all about attitude, and in my opinion, the attitude of Americans is changing rapidly. It is a long time since I published that magazine back in 1977, but it is never to late to act!"

Here's some Information on global warming than EVERYONE can understand!
